Extention Research- Ivory Coast

Extention-research

In 2002 civil war broke out in the Ivory Coast. Since then the country has been divied between north and south. They country is wracked by strife.

In an effort to democratize the country, political opposition parties were legalized in 1990. Before the election could take place, the Ivory Coast experienced its first military coup (A sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government.)

Within hours Gbagbo supporters took to the streets of Abidjan, the main port of the Ivory Coast. A bloody fight followed as crowds attacked the guards protecting the presidential palace. Many gendarmes and soldiers joined the fight against the junta government, forcing Guei to flee.

Mr Gbagbo has fought and on going fight to stay in power. He is determind to not back down, this has caused out raw and conflict. The people want freedom and democracy!

This has been an on going viloence. A poltical cival war.
